Diane Swanson

Diane Swanson is the von Waaden Professor of Business Administration at Kansas State University where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Business and Society and Professional Ethics. She is also the Founding Chair of KSU's Ethics Education Initiative, which is featured on AACSB's International Ethics Education Resource Center website. Professor Swanson received her Ph.D. in Business Environment, Public Policy and Ethics from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania in 1996.

Dr. Swanson's publications on business ethics include articles in Academy of Management Review, Human Relations, Journal of Academic Ethics, The Corporate Citizen, Business & Society, Behavioral Science, Journal of Individual Employment Rights, Systems Research and Behavioral Science, Journal of Corporate Citizenship, Australian Journal of Management, Perspectives on Corporate Citizenship, International Journal of Organizational Analysis, Journal of Business Ethics, A Companion to Business Ethics, Business Ethics: The New Challenge for Business Schools and Corporate Leaders, Perspectives on Corporate Citizenship, and Scaling the Corporate Wall: Readings in Business and Society. She is currently under contract with John Wiley and Sons to co-author a textbook on corporate governance.

One of her Academy of Management Review publications on business and society was awarded "Best Article " in 1999 by the International Association of Business and Society in affiliation with California Management Review. In July 2004, she was awarded "Outstanding Business Ethics Educator" at the Teaching Business Ethics conference sponsored by AACSB International, Colorado State University, University of Colorado, and University of Wyoming.

Professor Swanson has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Organizational Analysis since 1993 and has held governing positions in several academic associations. Currently she is co-investigator of an international grant awarded for an empirical study of executive decision making.

The recipient of various awards for teaching and research, Professor Swanson is listed in many standard biographical indexes, including Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Business in Higher Education. Since spearheading a national campaign to improve business ethics education in 2002, her comments on ethics and business education have been featured by more than 100 national and international media outlets, and she has been invited to speak to several audiences on the importance of ethics coursework in business schools.
