The annual Business Advisory Council Faculty and Staff Awards Dinner was held this year on Thursday, April 29, in the OSU CH2M Hill Alumni Center to recognize outstanding College of Business faculty and staff.

Service to Sustainability Business Initiative - This is a new award this year, which recognizes leadership in developing the College's Sustainability Initiative. Our educational programs help sustainable businesses meet the economic, social and environmental needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Thomas Dowling and Steve Lawton received this award for organizing and leading the integration of sustainability into the College's curriculum. Nancy King was honored for developing the teaching module, "A Role for Law in Ensuring Our Future," for business law classes.

Excellence in Scholarship Award - This award was established in 1992 to recognize academic faculty excellence in scholarship. The record is to be demonstrated not only by quantity of output, but also by focused, quality research, published in vehicles of the highest reputation. Mark Pagell received this award for numerous publications, including one that was honored as the best paper of the year in the Journal of Operations Management.

Outstanding Faculty Service Award - This award, established in 1988, honors excellence in service, reflecting a sustained involvement in professional organizations or University, College or Departmental life.  This year's award was given to Rene Reitsma for his leadership in the Undergraduate Program Committee.

Bryon L. Newton Award for Excellence in Teaching - Established in 1976 in honor of Professor Newton who taught Statistics, Accounting, and Finance at the College of Business from 1947-1972, this award recognizes commitment to, and excellence in, teaching. Clay Dibrell received this award for his outstanding performance in teaching Business Policy.

Exemplary Service Award - This award recognizes excellence in service and performance of administrative duties by professional faculty and classified staff. This award was established in 1992. This award was given to Mark Clements and Steve Landis for their work developing the College of Business web-site and their many contributions to the Business Solutions Group.

Corvallis Gazette-Times Faculty Leadership Award - This award, established in 1986, honors excellence in leadership among the College of Business faculty for leadership activities that affect the larger community, beyond the University. This award went to Ray Brooks for his leadership in campus and community organizations.

Newcomb Fellowship Award - This Newcomb Faculty Meritorious Performance Award was established in 1999 to recognize superior faculty performance and to instill in the College of Business an enhanced spirit of continuous improvement. Nancy King was made a Newcomb Fellow for her superior overall performance, which exemplifies the values to which the College aspires.

The generosity of the members of the Business Advisory Council made the awards possible and the long-time support of the Corvallis Gazette-Times for the GT Faculty Leadership Award was recognized.
