King to Deliver Presentation on Mobile Commerce Privacy Issues at Portland State University
By Abby P. Metzger
Business law professor Nancy King will be the featured speaker at Portland State University's Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science, Department of Engineering and Technology Management (ETM) in February 2009. Her presentation, titled "Data Privacy Law and Mobile Commerce," is part of the ETM's technology management seminar series for technology managers, scholars and graduate students and is open to the public.
King will discuss the role of consumer privacy within the mobile advertising sector. Mobile phones are becoming increasingly sophisticated and offer users individualized advertising and location-based services. King will explore how to best regulate the growing mobile commerce market and protect consumers' privacy. Her talk is based on research she conducted under a Fulbright Research grant received earlier this year.
"Whether the solutions are in the form of new government regulation or industry self-regulation, we need regulatory solutions that will adequately protect consumer privacy and establish a predictable business environment in this new global marketplace," said King. "The goal of my research is to help find regulatory solutions that will protect consumer privacy as well as encourage the growth of mobile commerce."
