Feature Focus: Austin Entrepreneurship Program

Three Student Businesses Win Business Concept Dollars
Three of ten Austin Entrepreneurship Program business concept proposals competed for and received seed funding from the Portland OSU Business Roundtable. A total of five thousand dollars was split among student companies Southern Oregon Sauce and Spice Company, Aspire Inc. (an online publishing co.) and ZAudio (maker of headphone amplifiers) for the development of their businesses. Link to full story…

Hewlett Packard Taps Students for Product Input
Students were looking from their windows and gathering on the Weatherford lawn evaluating the product that won Hewlett Packard the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show Innovation award-the HP ep9012 Instant Cinema Digital Projector (code named Zoetrope). With a sheet hanging from the building reflecting the projector image, even students not involved in the project came out to see what was going on. Link to full story…

AEP Wins Funding for Course and Program Development
The National Collegiate Investors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA) has awarded the Austin Entrepreneurship Program $32,000 for course and program development. Link to full story…

Alumni and Business Partners Recognized
The College of Business at Oregon State University honored leading alumni and business partners at their 2005 Alumni and Business Partner Awards dinner held in downtown Portland. The Hall of Fame Award, which honors OSU graduates who have made sustained and meritorious business contributions throughout their careers, was presented to Jon Masterson, a 1961 OSU graduate and CEO of Wallboard Tool Company; and Harley Smith, a 1959 graduate, investor and real estate broker. Business Faculty Take Home Awards
More than 110 business partners, emeriti faculty, campus dignitaries and College of Business faculty and staff attended the annual College of Business Awards Dinner held on Thursday, June 2, in the OSU CH2M Hill Alumni Center.
Honoring superior faculty performance, five individuals took home the prestigious Newcomb Fellowships.

Kim Garners More than $40,000 in Marketing Channel Research Funding
Associate Professor of Marketing Stephen Kim is on a roll. His recent research has received endorsement by the Korea Research Foundation (equivalent to the National Science Foundation in the U.S.) to the tune of $37,000. Link to full story…

Reitsma-Architected Website Helps K-12 Teachers "Teach Engineering"
It's a common problem for K-12 teachers --- how to engage students in the study of science and math. Now, just by going to www.TeachEngineering.com, teachers can find affordable lessons sorted by grade level or required time and deliver creative math/science education. College of Business Associate Professor of MIS Rene Reitsma designed the architecture for the system. Link to full story…

Larson Teaches in Thailand as Part of Sabbatical
Project management expert Erik Larson took leave of the United States this summer as part of his College of Business sabbatical. Larson taught at Chulalongkorn University (Chula), the oldest and one of the most prestigious universities in Thailand. Link to full story…
