Entrepreneurship Program Holds First 'Signature Event' The first annual "Signature Event" of the Austin Entrepreneurship Program (AEP) had an ambitious scope: Commercializing Technology Innovations in a Global Context. The context was "global" because Oregon students and businesses face worldwide challenges and fierce competition. Keeping that in mind, "commercializing technology innovations" must be coordinated on a national and statewide level to compete on a global scale. Link to full story…
AEP Teams Take the Wall Street Challenge Actively managing an investment portfolio means work. It is more than selecting your mutual funds in your retirement account and then never looking at them again. It is more than watching Mad Money every night. AEP Wins OSU Women's Giving Circle Grant When freshman Austin Entrepreneurship Program (AEP) members have opportunities to meet in small group settings with visiting executives and entrepreneurs it can be a little intimidating. Many have never done this before and don't know what to do when it comes to introducing themselves, shaking hands, picking the right utensil at dinner, keeping a conversation going or asking appropriate questions. Nike's President Denson Returns to Corvallis Roots Charlie Denson, the president of Nike, thanked the students and faculty who nearly filled Gilfillan Auditorium to hear him speak on a warm, sunny May afternoon. "When I was in college, I would have never passed up a day like this to hear someone talk. You would have found me out throwing a Frisbee or having a beer." It was a frank admission to an audience that included his daughter, OSU freshman Lindsey Denson. Link to full story…
Achieving Sustainable Performance Means Anticipating Social Consequences Business' role in improving both organizations and society is not a simple one, but it can be done with leaders who are caring and careful, according to Marc Epstein, distinguished research professor of management at Rice University. Epstein was the featured speaker at the Spring Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series with his talk focusing on sustainability and social innovation. Link to full story…
Virtual World Adds New Dimension to Work Life The College of Business Emerging Topics Seminar Series, "The Virtual World of Tomorrow," hosted by Professor Erik Larson, featured Bob Phillips, RW & Associates; Holly Gibbs, Summit Information Systems; Sakthi Angappamudali, Standard Insurance; Susan de la Vergne, PacifiCorp; Ilze Zigurs, University of Nebraska-Omaha; Bill Wickes, Boyd Lyon and Kim Sather, Hewlett-Packard;and Ketan Parangiape, Intel. Newcomb Wins University Award; Community Thanks When Bernard "Bernie" Newcomb, '65, co-founder of E*Trade and a prominent donor to the College of Business, received the OSU Distinguished Service Award at this year's commencement, he was recognized for achieving extraordinary success in his career and for being an excellent role model for 2006 graduates. OSU College of Business Honors Alumni, Business Partners Some of Oregon's most noted names in business took center stage recently as the Oregon State University College of Business presented its annual Alumni and Business Partner Awards in Portland. Most prominent among the evening's recipients were the college's Hall of Fame inductees, OSU alumni who have made "sustained and meritorious business contributions throughout their careers." Dean Ilene Kleinsorge, along with OSU President Ed Ray, lauded the Hall of Fame inductees for their respective lifetimes of success and philanthropy. Link to full story…
Austin Family Business Program: 20 Years and Still Innovating Twenty years ago, then College of Business Dean Lynn Spruill and Professor Pat Frishkoff, with the support of Ken and Joan Austin, started the Austin Family Business Program (AFBP). They saw the mission of the program as helping family business owners manage the day-to-day operations while planning for future growth and succession. Today, while the mission has not changed, the channels through which the program delivers services to family businesses have expanded significantly under the leadership of Professor Mark Green. Wu, Hsieh Honored; King, Dibrell Tenured The Journal of Operations Management (JOM), one of the top operations management journals, has selected Zhaohui Wu's paper, "Supplier-Supplier Relationships in the Buyer-Supplier Triad: Building Theories from Eight Case Studies," as the best paper published in 2005. OSU last won this honor for best paper in 2002. OSU is one of two schools to have been bestowed this honor twice in the 20 years of this competition. Link to full story…

Business Students Compete in Annual Lifetime Financial Planning Contest News reports remind us daily that we are a nation of debtors, not savers, and that far too few of us have socked away enough cash to ensure an easy retirement. But as students at the Oregon State University College of Business showed recently through the eighth annual Lifetime Financial Planning Contest, more than a few have what it takes to make the golden years as good as gold. Legwinski Gets Job He Was Looking For After growing up in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, going to St. Norbert College in Green Bay and studying abroad in Australia, OSU MBA graduate Trevor Legwinski realized how small the world was and the limitless opportunities that lie outside the Wisconsin border.
