Legwinski Gets Job He Was Looking ForAfter growing up in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, going to St. Norbert College in Green Bay and studying abroad in Australia, OSU MBA graduate Trevor Legwinski realized how small the world was and the limitless opportunities that lie outside the Wisconsin border. That's when he ventured to Oregon State for his MBA.
"I liked the entrepreneurial focus and spirit of OSU," said Legwinski. "So, I studied hard, applied and got in."
Legwinski not only got in, he excelled. His MBA team, Sideways Solutions, took first place in the MBA business plan competition. He worked for the Close to the Customer (C2C) Project on the Oregon Coast Community College research project receiving accolades from his clients and marketing professor. He did well in his classes and he found a girlfriend.
"It was really challenging taking five classes, wrapping up my Integrated Business Project and presenting to venture capitalists all in a three month period during winter term," said Legwinski. "Plus, I was working for the C2C Project."
And while he was gaining skills from diverse course offerings that he knew would help him get a job, most students were already looking for work and he was just beginning.
"I was looking in the entrepreneurial sector. I wanted to help a company go public and then start a new one," said Legwinski. "I want to build a skill set with a smaller firm and then someday start my own company."
Inspired by biographies written by Richard Branson, Virgin, and Howard Schultz, Starbucks, Legwinski started his own DJ business his senior year of college. He bought all the equipment and played music to pay for his education. At OSU, he acclimated himself to different situations and by working with the C2C project took advantage of the practical experience in client relations.
Two weeks before commencement, Legwinski received a job offer as marketing manager with MyStrands, an international startup firm based in Corvallis and Barcelona, that helps people from teenagers through adults discover new music. The day after commencement, he was back to work.
A month after graduating from OSU's MBA program, Legwinski is now collaborating with and managing a team in the US & Spain on a new product division of MyStrands called PartyStrands. "I am working side by side with skilled executives who have 10 years of work experience and have worked for big name firms such as Apple Computer and AOL. OSU's MBA program as well as my internship at the C2C Project provided the skills and education needed to thrive in a fast growing startup like MyStrands.
"I am living my dream, moving to Oregon was the best decision of my life. I have the job of my dreams and I found a wonderful girlfriend, life couldn't be any better. It just goes to show that if you are determined and put your heart, mind and soul forward, anything is possible!"
