Travel Books:

It's a good idea to buy all the travel books  you think you'll need here at home.  The reason being is that they are cheaper here, especially English editions.  If you start travel book shopping early enough, maybe you can take advantage of some online deals.  Another good reason is that you may not be able to find the one you need while you are over there.  For instance, try finding a travel book for Southern China...why would people in Hong Kong need a travel book for Southern China?

Recommendation
:

I strongly suggest the Fodor's series of travel books.  If you get nothing else, get the latest edition of Fodor's travel guide for Hong Kong.  The Fodor's book has more detailed information than any of the other travel books I have ever seen.  I've had experience using other brands such as "Rough Guides" and books from the Lonely Planet series.  It's my opinion that you will be better off with the Fodor's books.

BONUS:
Here are some photos taken by Derrick Lepin on his exchange to Hong Kong during the Fall of 2001.
