Facilities and Services
Once you have been admitted to Oregon State University, you will automatically be able to make use of various campus facilities. First, you have to get your student I.D. ($10.00 charge) at the Memorial Union upstairs in room 215, and then all these following services will be available to you. The school fees that you have to pay in the beginning of the term cover most of these services.
The Memorial Union (MU)
The Memorial Union is situated in the center of campus and offers facilities such as restaurants, a coffee shop, the OSU bookstore, a post office, ATM machines, lounges and a recreation center featuring bowling lanes, billiard tables, and video games. Please visit The Memorial Union.
In the Craft Center of the Memorial Union you can learn how to make pottery or jewelry, learn to develop black and white film, or you can participate in a lot of other activities.
The Bookstore (MU)
The Bookstore is located in the west end of the Memorial Union. Here you can buy general books, textbooks for your classes, or buy OSU sportswear (Beaver gear). Check out the Bookstore's Website for online purchases and further information.
The Valley Library (VLiB)
To borrow books you need your student I.D. Books on the business field can be found on 5th floor, and it is possible to reserve books online. Please visit the Valley Library website for further information.
Dixon Recreational Center (DxRC)
The Dixon Recreational Center is located in the south end of campus only a 5-minute walk from the College of Business. Here you can do all kinds of sports for free (with your student I.D.)
You can do lap swimming, take scuba diving classes, or relax in the hot tub in Steven's Natatorium; play badminton, basketball, volleyball, squash, etc. in the gym, or lift weights, use the bicycles, Stairmasters, etc. in the workout room. Whatever you like, it is there. They are open from early morning till midnight. Please visit Dixon's website.
If you are more of an outdoor type you are lucky because Corvallis is close to some of the best adventures in the U.S. You can go mountaineering, skiing, backpacking, mountain biking or canoeing; just sign up for different courses at the Dixon Recreational Center. If you do not have your own equipment, you can rent it from the Outdoor Recreation Center.
The Computer Lab at the College of Business (Bexl)
The Computer Lab is located on the first floor of Bexell Hall (College of Business) and is open to all students at OSU. The lab has 138 Dell Celeron computers, 4 Laserjet printers and a scanner available for you. The lab hours are: Monday-Thursday 7 a.m.-12 p.m., Friday 8 a.m.- 12 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.- 10 p.m. and Sunday 12 a.m.- 12 p.m.
The Barometer
The Barometer is the student newspaper at OSU. Here you can read about all the things that are going on at OSU. You can pick it up for free every day from the small black "houses" around on campus. To read the newspaper online click on this link The Barometer.
The European Student Association
The ESA is a diverse group of students from all over Europe studying at OSU. They put on a number of activities during the year, and you can participate actively in the association or just join their social activities such as their ski trip or coast trip.
