Visa

Non-Immigrant Visa Application Requirements

Once you are admitted to Oregon State University, you will receive a DS 2019 form so that you can apply for an exchange visitor visa at a U.S. Embassy in your country. Please note that the visa process can take months, so have the necessary papers sent to the embassy as soon as you can.

Once you arrive in Corvallis be sure to check with the Office of International Ed in Snell Hall on the OSU campus for instructions on how to travel outside of the U.S. (Canada or Mexico).

DENMARK

Danish applicants must mail in the following to Visa Applications, U.S. Embassy, Dag Hammarskjölds Allé 24, 2100 København Ø:

For J-1 Exchange Visitors:

  • All 3 copies of form DS 2019 (sign the red and white rear pages!!)
  • Your valid passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond your projected stay in the United States)
  • 1 completed and signed application form (OF-156). 
  • 1 recent passport size photo
  • Non-refundable application fee of DKK360 (can be paid at any Jyske Bank branch to: Reg. No. 5013, account number 200200-2) Payment by Internet banking is not acceptable.
  • 1 self-addressed, stamped A4 envelope for registered mail

NORWAY

Norwegian applicants must mail in the following to American Embassy,Visa Section, Drammensveien 18, 0244 Oslo:

For J-1 Exchange Visitors:

  • All 3 copies of form DS 2019 (sign the red and white rear pages!!)
  • Your valid passport
  • 1 completed and signed application form (OF-156). Download it at this site.
  • 1 recent passport size photo
  • $ 45 application fee (can be waived for programs sponsored by USIA and USAID; these programs have program numbers beginning with G-1 or G-2.)
  • 1 self-addressed, stamped envelope for registered mail for the return of your passport and papers.

J-1 Program Extension

The DS 2019 issued to you for your program of study at Oregon State University must remain valid at all times. If you need additional time, and wish to apply for an extension, please contact an International Student Advisor (ISA) at least 4-6 weeks before the ending date of your DS 2019. Forms and instructions are available in the lobby area of the 4th floor of Snell Hall at OSU. If you are subject to the two-year country physical presence requirement, please take note. If you apply for a waiver of the requirement and receive a favorable recommendation from the USIA, you are not eligible for an extension of J-1 stay after the USIA action.
