q Renew/Obtain passport. Must be valid for at least six months after student returns to U.S.; Official birth certificate needed for initial application.
q Register for spring term orientation class.
q Complete visa application and submit packet to consulate (addressed in class).
q Register for fall term classes (addressed in class).
q Reserve housing (addressed in class).
q Complete forms required by International Ed and OSU (handed out in class).
q Secure health insurance that covers students while abroad.
q Research best buy on airline tickets.
q Purchase Eurail pass if needed (must be done before departing).
q Obtain about five additional passport pictures for various ID’s/paperwork.
q Meet with advisor to determine what classes to register for winter term (registration takes place while students are abroad)
q Obtain Euro dollars and currency of the country arriving in.
q Obtain ATM card.
q Obtain credit card for emergencies.
q Consider purchasing money belt.
q Make travel itinerary and leave copy with family/friends.
q Make arrangements of when/how to contact family/friends while abroad.
q Make copies of passport and leave with family and advising office.
q Learn location of nearest U.S. consulate of the country you will be in.
q Check travel advisories of countries you plan to visit.
q Make sure all immunizations are current; get boosters as necessary.
q Learn a few key phrases of the language of the country you will be staying in |
