Nature of the Accounting Program

The goal of the accounting program at OSU is to provide a professionally oriented program to prepare students for successful careers in the major fields of accounting. Career opportunities in accounting are among the best of those open to business graduates in terms of the number of jobs available, starting salaries, and opportunities for advancement. Success requires motivation, a commitment to service, and skills in analysis and communication.

The accounting program at OSU was the first separately accredited accounting program in the State of Oregon. It is one of less than 200 accounting programs out of over 1,200 programs nationally to hold this distinction of quality and continuous improvement. The program focuses exclusively on undergraduate education. The curriculum is designed expressly to reflect the professional nature of the accounting program.

The accounting faculty possesses an appropriate mix of educational background and professional practice. They are friendly, cooperative, and versatile. Students rank the accounting faculty among the best in the College of Business.

OSU graduates are actively sought after and recruited by employers who value the graduates' reputations for excellent technical skills, positive attitude, commitment, and a high degree of professionalism.

The accounting program is extremely rigorous. The technical requirements are extensive, as is the time commitment required for success. The program demands much from its students, including a professional orientation and a sense of self-sufficiency.
