Business and Entrepreneurship Minor
(as of Spring 2007)

The College of Business offers a minor in Business and Entrepreneurship.  You can earn the minor on campus or completely online (effective fall 2008). Either way, you must follow the process below.

Entrepreneurship class

The Business and Entrepreneurship minor teaches you to recognize business opportunities, equips you with skills to secure funding, and provides insight on how to manage the commercialization of the business opportunity. Fundamental business classes are combined with those designed to specifically address the challenges of launching a new venture or an idea within an existing organization. With an innovative curriculum taught by dedicated professors, the Business and Entrepreneurship minor provides a fundamental stepping stone on the road to identifying and commercializing business opptunities in any type of organization.

How to declare the minor:

  1. Sign up here to attend a College of Business minor orientation. ALL prospective minors MUST attend an orientation.
  2. After orientation (IF eligible), an academic advisor will assist you in planning your course work.
  3. Complete the Undergraduate Degree Program Declaration or Change Form.
  4. Have it approved by the College of Business before submitting to the Registrar and registering for BA courses.

Who can be a business minor?

To be a business minor, you need to satisfy the following requirements:

Required course work GPA: Minimum 2.5 GPA (OSU grades only) in any of the 28 credits of required minor courses.

Overall Business GPA: Minimum GPA of 2.5 (OSU grades) in all minor course work and any other BA classes already completed.

Good standing at OSU: Minimum GPA of 2.0 in both cumulative OSU GPA and previous term GPA.

Minimum grade requirement: Minimum grade of C- is required in all listed minor courses.

All grade deficiencies from a prior COB warning/probation/suspension must be cleared.

To earn the minor:

  • All classes must be taken for a letter grade (A-F).
  • A minimum grade of C- required in all minor and COB classes (both OSU and transfer).
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA is required for 28 minor credits and other business classes completed (OSU grades only).
  • If repeat a class off campus, only most recent OSU grade will be used for GPA calculations.
  • If repeated at OSU, only most recent grade earned used to compute COB retention GPA.
  • Minor course work and/or prerequisite classes may be repeated at OSU only once.
  • Fifty one percent of minor classes must be completed at OSU.
  • All classes in minor can be repeated only once (a 'W' counts as a grade).

Important Notes:

  • Unless required by the student's major, minors must obtain an override to be able to register for 400-level BA courses.
  • The College of Business enforces prerequisites.
  • Unless otherwise noted, enrollment in 300-level BA courses, in addition to course prerequisites listed above, requires junior standing, and enrollment in 400-level BA courses, in addition to course prerequisites listed above, requires senior standing.
  • Some 400-level courses are restricted to certain majors. For these courses, listed prerequisites may not apply.
  • Students planning to pursue an MBA at OSU should discuss course selections with a College of Business graduate advisor.

The former Business Administration minor and the former Entrepreneurship minor can no longer be declared.
