Sports Complex:

City University has a nice indoor sports facility.  It has courts for basketball, badminton, squash, volleyball, and tables for table tennis.  To use these courts or the table tennis tables you have to reserve an hour time slot (you can make reservations via the web).  Upon arrival you also have to pay a fee for using the facility and their equipment.  The fees are negligible.  I believe the highest fee translated to about $1.30 USD.

The Sports Hall also has an medium sized exercise gym.  It has your typical workout equipment, stationary bikes, rowing machines, weight machines, etc.  There is a catch to using this room though.  School policy is that students have to take a semester long class on how to use all the equipment safely before they are allowed to have unrestricted access to the workout room and its equipment.  Well, being an exchange student for only a term, you are not capable of fulfilling this requirement, but the sports hall staff still wants to make sure you can operate the equipment properly and safely.  Here's how you get around this obstacle.  You need to go visit the equipment check out desk at the Sports Hall, explain that you are an exchange student and that you need a waive form to be able to use the workout room.  Basically it's a questionnaire asking for your previous workout history (i.e. do you work out at home, what sort of exercises do you do, how long have you been doing them, etc.)  While you're there also set up an interview time with the person in charge of authorizing waivers.  Fill this form out, and return it along with one of your passport sized photographs.  During the interview you'll be asked to basically reiterate what's on the form.  If your interviewer feels you can handle yourself in the workout room, they'll make you a special card using your passport photo that will allow you to use the workout room.
