Water:
You generally don't have to worry too much about the water in Hong Kong. It's not that the water in Hong Kong is not clean. There are germs in all water. It's just that water in Hong Kong has different germs in it than our bodies are used to. All the water that comes out of the water fountains on campus, including the dorms, is sanitized via UV filtration. The canteen also provides UV filtered water taps. The water fountains in most upscale shopping centers will most likely be filtered as well. If you are ever wary of the water, bottled water is cheap. If you buy bottled water, or any bottled drink for that matter, from a "stand run by a little, old lady" on the streets, be sure to check for an unbroken seal. You know...make sure you here that "click, click, click, click", like when you open a 20 ounce bottle of Coke from a vending machine. This is important to remember in the more rural areas of Hong Kong.
The most economical thing that I found was that if you buy a bottle of water, save the bottle when you are done and just keep refilling it via the campus water fountains or the filtered taps in the canteen. |
