Position Description:  Infrastructure - Integration Specialist

If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to hone your technical skills and business acumen in a fast-paced IT organization, The Standard’s Middleware Platform Engineering team might be just the spot for you. If you’re selected for this position, you’ll be working alongside some of the brightest minds in the Portland IT community as we develop new monitoring and automation tools, implement a new Change Management Database, and develop systematic documentation to help bring new employees up to speed. To succeed, you’ll need strong written and oral communication skills, and knowledge of web application infrastructure.

 

Dept:

Middleware Engineering bridges the gap between the many applications that users depend on to help them serve our customers.  We use a variety of tools to accomplish this, including:

Position Description: Infrastructure -  Infrastructure, Service & Support/Operations

 

Some people are born with an innate grasp of data. Do you see order behind other people’s spreadsheet chaos? Do your friends tease you because you actually enjoy analyzing spreadsheets and databases?  If so, a summer internship as a Report Analyst with our Infrastructure team just might be exactly the place to level up your skills in a serious IT environment.

 

You’ll need to be absolutely fluent in MS Office, understand technical writing and documentation methods, and have exceptional analytical skills and aptitude. Experience with web authoring, ODBC, SQL or SQL Navigator, and Crystal Reports are an important plus. If you bring the skills and aptitude, we’ll give you the opportunity to learn industry standard problem solving techniques, data management tools and techniques, industry benchmarking, and best practices from one of Portland’s top IT teams.

 

Dept:

IT doesn’t just happen. Behind the scenes of any IT department is the Infrastructure department, responsible for operations of the Data Center, support, and engineering.  The Standard’s IT Infrastructure department monitors the myriad environments and technologies required to power a multi-billion dollar enterprise.

 

 

 

 

Position Description:  Business Solutions, OPUS Development,  Applications Development

If you’re a wizard with C++, and relational databases, here’s a chance to dig in to some serious large-scale, multi-platform, multi-component software design. Capable in Visual Basic 6 and .NET? Even better still. Working alongside our senior developers, you’ll have the opportunity to see how a multi-billion dollar enterprise gets IT done. As you develop your existing skills, you’ll gain broad exposure to a variety of other IT disciplines and departments. You’ll also learn about how your development work connects with the business of insurance pricing and risk rating.

 

Dept:

IT’s Business Solutions team develops a wide variety of solutions that help our partners in Marketing, Underwriting, and Sales bring deliver new products and features to our customers. Our primary focus is on development and enhancement of the critical rate-making and proposal applications that lie at the core of our business.

 

 

Position Description:   PMO, IT Project Management Analyst

Interested in exploring a career in Project Management? If you’ve dipped your toes in and want more, this opportunity to get a high-level overview of IT project and portfolio management could be the perfect fit. Working with project & resource managers, and support staff, you’ll assist with the implementation of a brand new toolset based on the industry standard Microsoft Project Server and Microsoft SharePoint. Not only will you manage the timeline, you’ll also develop documentation and job aids, and facilitate the complex organizational changes required for success.

 

To succeed in this high-profile opportunity, you’ll definitely need outstanding written and verbal communication skills. You’ll also bring previous exposure to project management methodologies, project management software, and software collaboration tools to the table. Prior experience with Microsoft Project Server and Microsoft SharePoint is highly desirable.

An understanding of business process design and technical training will inform the solutions that you’ll design. Strong research and interpersonal skills are essential for this position.

 

 

Position Description:  Enterprise Architect -  Enterprise Architect Analyst

Do you have a strong, clear grasp of both qualitative and quantitative research methods? Are you proactive, excited to learn IT and the Insurance industry? Do your friends and colleagues compliment you on your strong inter-personal skills? If so, The Standard’s Information Technology team has a unique opportunity that could be just right for you.

 

This project will give you a rare chance to inform the company’s Technology Strategy by providing detailed analysis on our current systems. Our mix of legacy and cutting edge technology creates a challenging complexity that requires meticulous engineering.  Managing this complexity requires a consolidated view of our current state, and that’s where you come in. Under direction from veteran technical leaders, you’ll gather data, create models in our engineering tools, and develop a consolidated model of the current state. Along the way, you’ll gain an appreciation of the challenges imposed by legacy technology, and develop a systems thinking approach to the migration to newer technologies. You’ll also gain valuable experience

using an industry leading Architecture Case Tool (CaseWise).

 

This is a serious project, with serious implications, and a serious opportunity for the right candidate.

Job Description: Enterprise Architect, Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst
Are you always on the lookout for cutting-edge technology that helps you work more efficiently? Can you see through the clutter of emerging technologies and identify the solutions that have the potential to transform the way business is done? If so, the IT department’s Enterprise Architecture team wants to give you the chance to flex your research and analysis skills, and help us identify the technological trends that will keep us ahead of our competitors. In this unique role, you’ll work with senior technical leaders to create a research plan, gather data, perform complex analysis, derive conclusions, and package the results to deliver to managers and executives.

 

You’ll obviously need top-notch investigative, research and analysis skills, including familiarity with both qualitative and quantitative research methods. In addition, you’ll be interacting with a variety of staff at every level, so impeccable interpersonal skills are essential.

Freshmen: $15.25 an hour
Sophomore: $17.00 an hour
Junior: $18.75 an hour
Senior: $20.50 an hour
