Senate Majority Office: Outreach CoordinatorDuties and Responsibilities:
The purpose of this position is to provide community outreach efforts for the Senate Democratic Caucus. This position is supervised by the Chief of Staff. Major duties include:
- Community Outreach – Coordinates community contact efforts for Democratic Caucus members, including, but not limited to, creating and implementing comprehensive outreach plans, setting up town halls and other district events, and researching and developing district outreach opportunities.
- Communications – Assists the Communications Director with external communication for the Democratic Caucus members including, but not limited to, district newsletters, press releases, web pages, and research.
- Legislative Research – Tracks legislative activity to help members communicate their legislative accomplishments to various constituencies.
- Other – Assists the policy and communications staff with other projects on an as-needed basis.
This is a temporary position (December-July 2009) based in the Capitol building in Salem.
Selection Process:
- Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and a writing sample of no more than 2 pages.
- Applicants with experience in materials, production/graphic design are encouraged to submit example of their work.
- Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, beginning Nov 15, 2009.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience in community organization or media relations, preferably in a political of public policy arena
- Outstanding written and oral communications skills
- Superb organizational skills
- Strong work ethic and ability to work under deadline in a high pressure environment
- Prior experience in a legislative assembly or political environment.
- Demonstrated computer skills in graphic design and layout (Preferred)
- Proficiency with word and excel (Preferred)

December to July 2009

Wage Range:
$2,500 - $3,500/month
