Service Description

HandsOn Mid-Willamette Valley (HOMWV) is the volunteer action center for Marion, Polk, and Yamhill Counties. In our second year of operations, we are working to expand and develop our programs and service offerings to support volunteers, agencies, and businesses across the Mid-Willamette Valley. The Days of Service VISTA will work with our 150+ Partner Agencies and an endless number of companies, schools, and community groups to develop meaningful projects and mobilize volunteers during national and local Days of Service, including Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Global Youth Services Day, United Way Days of Caring, Make a Difference Day, Family Volunteer Day, National Volunteer Week, Earth Day, and Kids Care Week. In addition, the Days of Service VISTA will be responsible for developing trainings, tool-kits, and resources as necessary for ensuring meaningful and accessible programming across our three county region for Days of Service.

Specific Member Duties

- Analyze strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats in current Days of Service programming, developing a plan for accomplishing the goals outlined for the member's year of service.

- Develop and implement plans and strategies for identifying and engaging non-profit organizations in the planning and implementation of volunteer projects for Days of Service.

- Create and implement recruitment plans that engage volunteers and volunteer groups across our three county region for participation in Days of Service.

- Develop strategies for increasing volunteer retention for both HOMWV and our Partner Agencies, transitioning one-time project volunteers into regular volunteers for our community.

- Create trainings and resources to increase the intentional learning outcomes of projects and to address the primary issue of each Day of Service.

- Facilitate Volunteer Action Trainings that prepare volunteers to lead and mobilize others during Days of Service and teach volunteers how to lead reflection. In addition, facilitate other Days of Service trainings as necessary.

- Plan Days of Service programming for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Global Youth Services Day, United Way Days of Caring, Make a Difference Day, Family Volunteer Day, National Volunteer Week, Earth Day, and Kids Care Week.

- Develop localized tool-kits for implementing national Days of Service within a local context for future use and distribution by HOMWV staff, Partner Agencies, and community groups.

- Document all work, efforts, partnerships, and results throughout the year of service for future use by HOMWV staff, including identified areas for growth and next steps.

Specific Skills Needed

- Project management experience or knowledge.

- Strong communication skills in a variety of forms - visual, written, and verbal. Experience in public speaking preferred.

- Ability to self-manage under limited supervision.

- Creative problem solving.

- Ability to network and develop community partnerships.

- Experience in community organizing and/or volunteer recruitment.

- Open-mindedness to working with diverse populations.

- General PC proficiency, including MS Office programs

- Flexibility and ability to work as part of a small, close-knit team.

- Ability to multi-task, stay organized, and follow through on commitments.

- A passion for volunteerism and a personal commitment to civic engagement.
