Service Description

HandsOn Mid-Willamette Valley (HOMWV) is the volunteer action center for Marion, Polk, and Yamhill Counties. In our second year of operations, we are working to expand and develop our programs and service offerings to support volunteers, agencies, and businesses across the Mid-Willamette Valley. The Non-Profit Capacity Building VISTA will be working with our 150+ Partner Agencies to develop the first year of a volunteer management training series and a set of tool-kits and resources that build capacity of non-profits to engage volunteers from underrepresented communities.

Specific Member Duties

- Survey and evaluate Partner Agencies' needs for training and capacity building. Partner Agencies include a range of non-profits, faith-based organizations, government agencies, school-based organizations, and community groups/associations from cities ranging in population from 500 to 150,000 people.

- Based on needs identified by our Partner Agencies, develop and implement a volunteer management training series open to partners and non-partners that is educational, accessible, and cost effective across our three county region.

- Identify which sessions within the training series allow for HOMWV to internally develop materials and trainings and which sessions necessitate hiring outside trainers and consultants. For training sessions internally developed, the AmeriCorps VISTA member will be responsible for this creation and capturing the training materials in a tool-kit for future trainings and distribution.

- Develop and implement a marketing and recruitment strategy for educating target agencies and groups about the training series and resources.

- Create evaluation tools and procedures for measuring and reporting the effectiveness of the training series.

- Utilizing feedback and lessons learned develop a training development strategy and timeline for future use by HOMWV staff.

- Develop volunteer project and engagement tool-kits that will be distributed to Partners across the three counties to increase their capacity to mobilize volunteers, specifically volunteers from underserved communities.

- Document all work, efforts, partnerships, and results throughout the year of service for future use by HOMWV staff, including identified areas for growth and next steps.
