TutorsAcademics for Student Athletes (ASA) office provides academic and personal support to all student athletes at Oregon State University. Our intent is to provide our students with the opportunity to achieve their potential for intellectual, social and personal development. We strive to create a collaborative environment with campus departments to help student athletes integrate into the OSU community.
Description:
· Tutoring students and communicating with Academics for Student Athletes (ASA) staff about student progress are the two coequal purposes of this position.
· Tutor students in content areas and academic skills (time management, note taking, organization, etc.).
· Document all sessions thoroughly using ASA’s online documentation system.
· Keep the ASA online system updated with your availability and any changes/additions to your tutoring schedule.
· Must be able to effectively communicate with diverse populations.
· Differentiate instruction/assistance to match the strengths of the student.
· Take initiative to communicate directly, as situations warrant, with ASA Counselors.
· Attend mandatory trainings at the beginning of each term and as offered throughout the term.
· Must be punctual and extremely trustworthy.
· Must be able to work independently and effectively without constant direct supervision.
· Follow the letter and spirit of all ASA, OSU, and NCAA regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
· We are looking for anyone who is comfortable tutoring several different business courses, preferably BA 211, BA 213, BA 215, BA 276, BA 376, MTH 241, MTH 245, ECON 201 and ECON 202
· Tutors must be juniors, seniors or graduate students
· 3.0 OSU GPA
· Good communication and interpersonal skills
· Detailed knowledge of a specific subject area and/or a broad knowledge of many general education (baccalaureate core) areas
The ideal candidate is a student with previous tutoring experience and also has an interest in the field of education and teaching. Qualified candidates will have attained at least junior standing, a 3.0 GPA,
Hours/Salary
Hours as needed--this can vary from 1-2 hours per week to 5-10 per week. It depends on demand.
Wage for undergraduates: $8.40/hour; graduates: $10.00/hour

Note: our facilities are open from 8am to 10pm, and we typically have moderate demand for tutors in the daytime, very limited demand for tutors between 2pm and 6pm, and steady/heavy demand for tutors between 7pm and 9pm.
