How can academic advisors help me? Advisors are trained professionals who can help you with the following:
- Program planning (one term to four years)
- Career planning
- Internship information
- Study Abroad
- Academic success issues
- Scholarships
Will I be assigned to a specific advisor? No. You may choose to see one advisor consistently, but it is not required.
When should I see an academic advisor? At least once a year. Feel free to come in more often! We have several types of appointments to help fit your needs:
|
30 min. individual appointments |
For program plans, career issues, questions about minors, internships, transfer classes, academic problems, exchanges, etc. (Open to all majors) |
|
15 min. individual appointments |
Starting one week before priority registration for registration problems, questions, etc. (Current BA majors and BA minors only!) |
|
Group appointments |
Scheduled appointments for small groups of students during priority registration to help you create your class schedule for next term. |
|
Walk-ins/Same days |
A walk-in is for help with registration problems during the first two days of every quarter and priority registration times. These cannot be scheduled in advance.
Same days are also for registration problems only. You call the office at 8 am on the morning you wish to see an advisor and ask for a 'same day' appointment. |
Do I need to make an appointment? Yes. Students may schedule an appointment in person or by phone. Appointments may be made up to one week in advance. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please call to cancel so that another student may be accommodated.

Can I S/U a business class? No, you can never take a business core or option class for an S/U grade. Not even if it's an elective! You can S/U a BACC core class unless it is also in the business core.
How do I S/U a BACC core class? Come to Bexell 214 and fill out an orange S/U grading form. We'll stamp this form and then you take it to the Registrar's Office. You do not need to make an appointment with an advisor.
What is the difference between a BA and a BS in business?
- BA (Bachelor of Arts) students in business must demonstate proficiency of a foreign language (foreign language is defined as completing the 213-level of that language with a C or better or getting a signed letter by the foreign language department that states they have determined the student has that level of proficiency without needing the course work) AND demonstrate cultural awareness by either a) successfully completing a a 10 week international experience such as internship, research experience or study abroad in a non-English speaking foreign country while enrolled at OSU. This experience must be clearly documented for audit purposes, or b) completing 6 credits of upper division course work focusing on the culture or regions that commonly use the language studied.
- BS (Bachelor
of Science) students in business do NOT need to complete any extra requirements to earn this degree.
How do I get my PIN to register?
- Check your Advising Report online. Don't know how? Click here.
- Come into Bexell 214 with a photo ID and ask for it.
- PINs can be emailed to ONID accounts only! NO emails to private accounts.
- PINs can NEVER be given over the phone.
When should I register? You should register promptly for the next term during priority registration.
Fall term priority registration ~ mid May to early June Winter term priority registration~ mid November to early December Spring term priority registration ~ end of February to mid March
Your specific date and time to register is determined by your minimum number of credits (earned plus in progress). If you meet that minimum, you can register in that time block or any later time. Your specific registration time can be found on the Check Registration Status page in the Registration menu through Student Online Services or check the Priority Registration Schedule.
How do I declare a minor? Do I need one? Business majors are not required to have a minor any more. If you wish to pursue a minor, you need to contact the department and/or college of your minor. Each college has a different process to officially declare a minor. You might be required to attend an orientation, or the minor might have prerequisite requirements. You can find information about all current university minors here.
How do I declare my option in business? You will declare your option or major in business when you apply to pro-school. Accounting has a separate application process. For more information, check the Accounting department web pages.
How do I get into a closed business class? Wait List: During phase 2 of priority registration, waitlists will be opened online. You should add your name to the list for classes that you would like to take. If the waitlist is full, keep checking online. COB no longer uses its old wait list system.
First day: Come into Bexell 214 to try and get a spot in a class on the first day of the new term.
NEVER GO TO THE PROFESSOR AND ASK TO BE ADDED INTO THE CLASS. THEY WILL JUST SEND YOU TO BEXELL 214.
How do I use a waitlist? During Phase 2 of the priority registration process, you may add to the wait list for a class with the following steps:
-
Copy the CRN of the class you want to waitlist
-
Go to the add/drop section of your Student Online Services
-
Paste the CRN into the CRN boxes at the bottom of the page
-
Click Submit Changes
-
Under the Action Scrollbar, choose Waitlist
-
Click Submit Changes
You will receive an error message if the wait list is full. You will need to monitor the class and add to the wait list once seats become available.
