Comment by Dr. Dave Sullivan, MIS Option Coordinator, about the MIS Option

Some business schools offer business degrees focused primarily on one area, such as finance or MIS. These programs offer lots of classes about a particular discipline but provide less perspective about all business areas. In contrast, the College of Business at Oregon State University requires every student to complete an extensive general business core of courses in finance, accounting, marketing, management and other business disciplines. As a result, we have collapsed our coverage of the MIS discipline into just seven courses. We've found this provides enough of an introduction to get our graduates started in MIS careers -- but they must expect to continue learning and specializing after graduation. Anyone going into the MIS field needs to keep up with the field's rapid changes.
