Vienna, Austria

The Oregon State University College of Business offers a one-term exchange program at Vienna University.

Background

Austria lies in the center of Europe and is known as “the heart of the continent”. Austria has been a vital link between the trade and cultural centers of Europe for centuries. Some of Austria’s most famous native sons include: Beethoven, Brahms, Freud, Gustav Klimt, Mozart, Schubert, and Straus---just to name a few!

Vienna is a vibrant and beautiful city. Famous for the Vienna Boys’ Choir, Vienna is exploding with other cultural opportunities: theater, opera, art, 20 museums, castles, restaurants, music, and shopping. Celebrations and festivals are held in the city throughout the year. UNESCO’s list of the World’s Cultural Heritage includes historic parts of Vienna, naming them “sites of exceptional interest to humanity”.

Vienna University (WU) is over 100 years old. It was founded on October 1st, 1898 as the Imperial Export Academy. Today the WU ranks among the top business and economics universities in Europe. Its particular strengths are the wide range of courses offered and the international orientation of its teaching and research. WU students enjoy a highly practice-oriented education, due in large part to WU’s close links to the real business world.

Academic Program

The Vienna University academic program runs from August to mid-December. Students who complete the study program will fill all requirements for an International Business Option. All courses are taught in English. An example of course titles and their OSU credit equivalent are as follows:

Living Arrangements

Students will live in dorms. There are five dorms to choose from, with a limited amount of single rooms available on a first come, first serve basis.

Cost

Students pay fall term tuition to OSU for the autumn semester at Vienna University. OSU Student fees are waived.  There is a $50 non-refundable application fee submitted with application and a $250 non-refundable program fee payable after acceptance.  Living expenses are generally higher than in Oregon. The main additional cost is airfare. Costs will vary depending on the exchange rate for U.S. dollars at the time of the program and personal spending habits.  Expenses incurred through additional travel are the responsibility of the student.

Financial Aid

Most financial aid that students are eligible to receive (Guaranteed Student Loans, Pell Grants, Veteran's benefits) is applicable to this exchange program.  FINANCIAL AID IS NOT AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS UNTIL CLASSES BEGIN AT OSU, so students must budget accordingly. There are also study abroad scholarships available for those students with excellent academic records. Contact the Office of International Education (Snell Hall-444, 737-3006) for more information.   College of Business Scholarships are also available.

  • A completed application for admission to the Arthur Stonehill International Business Exchange Program (available in 214 Bexell Hall)
  • Two reference forms
